Under 19 World cup:India beat Australia by 100 Runs
The Men in Blue
are off to a great start in their ICC Under-19 World Cup 2018 campaign, as the
Indian team posted a huge total of 328 runs against Australia at Bay Oval,
Mount Maunganui, New Zealand.
Pritvi Shaw winning the toss did
not hesitate to bat first on a seeming flat track.
The openers, Shaw and Manjot Kalra
led India's surge from the front. Both the batsmen started carefully playing
out first six over’s for just 27 runs. It was a six from Shaw who opened the
floodgates for India.
After that, both the players
changed their strike and took on the Aussie bowling attack as India crossed the
50-run mark in the 10th over.
Both Kalra and Shaw missed out on
individual centuries. Shaw was dismissed on 94 when he edged the ball to the
keeper, while Kalra was caught at mid-wicket and was dismissed at 86.
They had an opening stand of 180
and with that, they soon overtook Robin Uthappa and Shikhar Dhawan's opening
wicket record of 174 runs in U-19 World Cup for India.
In the end, Shubman Gill played a
fiery innings of 63 runs to help India cross the 300-run mark, while Abhishek
Sharma 8-ball 23, provided the late flourish.
He fell to Edwards for an 8-ball
23. This was also the highest-ever total against Australia in an U19 World Cup;
surpassing previous best by Ireland.
India closed their innings on 328
for 7.
For Australia, the pick of the
bowlers was Jack Edwards who took four wickets for 65 runs.
Then Australia
make 228runs for 42.5 over’s and they loss all wickets. India won U19 first
match by 100runs.Its shows quality of the Indian players.
Player of the
match: Prithvi Shaw: I think it was really good. A challenge as well. We did
well in all departments. Overall a good team performance. It was great
experience playing first-class cricket and then coming to U-19. He (Manjot
Kalra) played really well and executed all the plans that we came up with. They
(the pacers) did a great job for the team. Ishan also looked good, but
unfortunately he had to go back. Mavi and Nagarkoti were brilliant. We are
getting used to conditions. We are only going to get better. They (the
spinners) did a decent job. To be in the process is the main thing and our
coach Rahul Sir tells us to be positive and keeps us focused. It is great
playing under Rahul Sir. He never speaks negative even in practice.
